Welcome to the family: Cousin

Cousin press photo (web res) As promised, some ACTUAL NEWS about releases for this year: really excited to announce that the latest band to join the Barely Regal family is Brighton post-hardcore trio Cousin.

Like a significant portion of good new bands that I'm currently a tad obsessed with, I was introduced to Cousin by Tommy from Zine and Not Heard, while we trying to sort the line-up for an all-dayer show back in 2013, and I pretty much haven't stopped listening to their first record since. Instrumental guitar bands often overcompensate for a lack of vocals by making their songs as complex as possible, but Cousin's music is lean and patient, with the interlocking dual guitars and rolling drums building from catchy riffs into solid rolling grooves, bringing to mind the likes of Polvo or a less frantic Ghosts and Vodka. And now we're pleased to announce that Cousin will be treating us to a second dose of dense post-hardcore groovin' with their sophomore album 'Music To Polish Your Rifle To', which will be out on the 23 March 15, released by ourselves and the band's own label Fckin the Night. The first track from the album is streaming on Musical Mathematics now, which you can stream via the link above, and download for free from here. Just wait for that heavy drop in the middle, oh boy. Cousin will be touring Europe this March/April: MARCH 25 – Paris, France – Le Cirque Electrique 26 – Rouen, France – Le 3 Pieces 27 – Brussels, Belgium – Rock Classic 28 – Luxembourg, ROCAS 29 – Munster, Germany – venue TBC 31 – Den Haag, Netherlands – 303 Live APRIL 1 – Amsterdam, Netherlands – Studio K 3 – Siegen, Germany – Kultkaff 4 – Stuttgart, Germany – venue TBC 7 – Hradec Kralove, Czech R – Bio Central 8 – Ostrava, Czech R – Plan B 9 – Kromeriz, Czech R – Rehearsal Space Party 10 – Plzen, Czech R – venue TBC 11 – Prague, Czech R – venue TBC 12 – Budweiss, Czech R – Kredance 13 – Graz, Austria – Sub 14 – Vienna, Austria – Rhiz 23 – Brighton, UK – Shakespeare’s Head (album release show) ...plus we'll hopefully have a London show in the pipeline for the very near future.
