Holy Split!

(Been waiting to use that pun for SO long now. I was torn between that, ‘split me’, and ‘splitting hell’, but I’m sure there’ll be other opportunities to use those in the future…) After missing Strange News From Another Star play at every opportunity for one reason or another recently, finally got to catch them Wednesday night at Tommy’s Bar. While the venue was relatively quiet (even though it was supposedly UWIC’s freshers week), Strange News played one of the best shows I’ve seen to date, and reminded me why they’re one of our favourite live bands at the moment. You know it’s going to be a good show when they take to the stage clad entirely in their signature double denim, bassist Mark Foley standing on a podium built entirely of the gnarliest bass equipment available to hand at the time. You know it’s been a good show when they leave the stage so sweaty that their denim shirts have changed colour. Still on a high after that gig, this seems as good as opportunity as any to announce officially that the wheels are set in motion for our second release: a 7” split single with SNFAS and Samoans. Not that it was a huge secret before - we’ve dropped numerous ‘subtle’ hints, and told quite a few people already, but we can pretend this is exclusive news at least. So excited about this for many reasons. For a start, they’re two of our favourite bands in Cardiff at the moment, so we’re relatively stoked to be able to put out a release by the both of them. Secondly, this is the first time we’ll have been involved in a release right from the very beginning, so we’re going to get to see the record take shape right from recording all the way up to handing out copies to eager fans at the launch gig (…you?) in exchange for an, as of yet unquantified, monetary figure. Planning is already well under way to get this out before the end of the year, with the recording actually starting in tomorrow (!). We’ll be setting up a blog specifically for the release in the very near future to keep tabs on progress, where we’ll be posting more photos, videos etc than your already multimedia-saturated mind can handle. We’ll link to that as soon as it’s up and running.
